Maria is a single mother with three children. She and the children live in a one room house with one single bed and no electricity or water.

Although not married, Marcos & Maria have been living together for 16 years and have been in the house they now own for 4 years. The house has 3 rooms, living room, bedroom and kitchen, and is made of thatched reeds, and does not have a secure door. They do not have electricity or water. Maria cooks over a wood fire.

Joel and Pamela have been living together for five years. Jose works 10 hours a day as a cook and earns 15 soles per day. Pamela stays at home and takes care of the house and family. Their house has no water or  electricity and is made of bamboo. The house has 3 rooms with 3 single beds. They cook on a propane gas  stove and then use charcoal when they run out of gas.
