Saint Pope Pontian
Martyred with Saint Eusbius, Saint Vincent, and Saint Peregrinus in the
persecution of Emperor Commodus.
Died: martyred in 192 at Rome, Italy; stretched on the rack, beaten
with clubs, burned, then beaten to death with lead-tipped whips; initially
buried in the catacombs in Rome; Pope Saint Nicholas I sent his relics to
Vienne, France, in 863

Third century Roman soldier assigned to guard Christian prisoners.
Converted by them to the faith. Martyred for assisting at the burial of
some his martyred charges.
Died: strapped to two wild horses who were then turned loose to drag
him to death; collected body fragments buried along the Via Tiburtina,
Rome, Italy
