After Mass

Head extraordinary ministers purify the sacred vessels, if not already done by the sacristan.  Sacred vessels should always be purified with plain water that is then consumed.  After purification, they may be cleaned with a small amount of slightly soapy water that is then poured down the regular sink.  Please do not stack the sacred vessels as they tend to become scratched.

Ciboria and ChalicesIn the sacristy, assemble the used ciboria, the priest's paten, and the used chalices on the counter by the sink.  Use a small amount of water to swirl and rinse the inside of the vessels in sequence, pouring this water into the next ciborium or chalice and continuing this process until all ciboria and chalices have been purified.  This water should always be consumed.  Wipe the ciboria and chalices dry and replace them in their labeled cabinets.

Glass cruets and flagons:  Purify the flagon that contained the Precious Blood with water and consume it by transferring it to a chalice and drinking it.  Place the glass cruets and flagons on the wooden spindle rack to dry.  After the 5:30 Masses on Saturday and Sunday, the flagons should be cleaned with slightly soapy water (only after they have first been purified)  that is then poured down the regular sink.  Rinse the flagons and allow them to dry on the wooden spindle.  Cruets and flagons that contained only water need not be purified and cleaned with soap.
