Peru Mission

Project of Love

 (Proyecto de Amor)

Mission Statement

The Mission of Proyecto de Amor is to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to our brothers and sisters in Peru by fostering personal relationships, sharing spiritual and temporal gifts, and worshiping together in order to build up God's kingdom and give witness to His goodness.

Our Adopted Sister Parish

In 1998, St. John the Baptist Parish adopted a sister parish,
Santisimo Sacramento (Blessed Sacrament), in Piura, Peru, located approximately 600 miles north of Lima, Peru's capital, and approximately 25 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. The climate is generally hot and never cold. The region is very poor and experiences 40% or more unemployment. Fr. Joseph Uhen, raised in Oklahoma City and a graduate of Notre Dame University, was ordained a priest in Piura on April 1, 1995. He is pastor of Santisimo Sacramento Parish with over 30,000 parishioners. On any given weekend Fr. Joe, with assistance of a few Jesuits and retired priests in the area, celebrates 16 masses in 12 different locations.
Over 12,000 faithful attend these masses.
