TimeOut is a program which gives special time to seniors and their
caregiver. This program is patterned after the Daybreak program which is a
cooperative effort between Christ the King Catholic Church and Greystone Presbyterian
Church to provide respite from the day-to-day routine of living alone or caring for an
older adult.
This special time is every Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Catholic
Parish of St. John the Baptist. Volunteers are present to greet participants upon their
arrival. The program includes a variety of planned activities, games, entertainment,
snacks and lunch. A donation of $3.00 per person is suggested.
While participants attend the program, caregivers can spend the day shopping, catching
up on housework, or getting needed rest with the comfort of knowing that their loved ones
are in good hands.
The program is designed to help seniors from the parish as well as the community
maintain their health, re-establish habits or self-reliance and extend their independent
living arrangements, as well as overcome their sense of isolation. It also gives much
needed time off to the caregivers. Seniors or handicapped persons who live alone or just
want a break in their daily routines are invited to join the program.
The guidelines for attending TimeOut include the following:
1. Participants must be able to feed themselves.
2. Participants must be able to attend to their personal hygiene.
3. Participants' behavior must be controlled, ie, not loud, abusive or
combative.
4. Participants who require medication must dispense their own.
